Marentha's Baronial Guard is
comprised of one hundred and fifty lads and lasses dedicated to
patrolling and protecting the Barony of which they're a part. Most of
the members came to us shortly after the Barony was formed; they were all
veterans of the Sutherland War. They marched into Manath with a leather jerkin, a pole-arm, and a
tankard apiece.
The Guard has come a long
way since then. When the original members came to us, they were all
mostly inexperienced in their particular vocations. Over the last couple of years they've learned a great deal and have grown together as separate
units and as a Guard as a whole.
Early last year, Marentha
suffered attack after attack by the gnolls of the Gallyamath Forest. We endured these attacks for
two or three months; we requested aid from the other Baronies and from
the County. Many groups from all around the Vale responded to our
request with alacrity and mustered troops to send us. However, before
the troops that were coming to our assistance could get very far, the
Gnolls launched an attack on Tyrangel itself. The focus of all troop
activity shifted to meet the new thrust of the gnolls.
Great battles ensued; this
has come to be known as The Gnoll War. During this time many lives were
lost from all the groups; Marentha lost 40 of its Baronial Guard. If you
ever visit the Guard Headquarters in Manath (located very near The
Residence) you'll see the memorial for them. You'll also see a memorial
for all the others who died fighting the gnolls.
The next two months saw some
heavy recruiting in Manath to rebuild our Guard. All of our new Guard
members were citizens of Manath. Visitors to the city will see the lads
and lasses of the Guard not only patrolling but helping with public works
as well. As a matter of fact, the Guard was instrumental in building
Manath's new Ampitheatre.
Marentha has a secondary
sort of Guard which is headed by Lt. Seneca Desertmoon. He runs the Marenthan Scouts, also known as the Wardens of the Gallyamath.
Lt. Tenshi, one of the founding members of the Wardens is now
attached to the Guard proper as my adjutant as his organizational skills
are a great asset to the Guard. He is my second in command, and in charge of all administrative duties. Recently returned to duty after being rescued from Death's Realm is Lt. Jauntarius Darkstrider. I am also very pleased on a personal level that two of my brothers, Raven, and Owl, and my cousin, Jamis, have both moved down from Warwick and joined me in serving a great woman. The guard has also acquired some additional excellent members who, like the rest of the Guard I've named, journey with us to Tyrangel for the Market Gathers. These men, Sgt. Cross, Cpl. Luciean Anderson, and Pvt. Kallirjin, make an incredible addition to the Guard. They've all shown wonderful leadership potential and give exemplary service to the Baroness whom we all serve. Wonderful things are in store for the future for all my lads and lasses.
