Welcome travelers to the city of Manath! I am Tagan Calera, the Chandler of Manath and a servant of Mylord Baron Tiger deDannon. Dame Amaris tells me that you wish to know about me.
I am from the mountains Northwest of the Dutchy of Ravenholt in the
Principitality of Northmarch. If you want to know where that is may I
recommend you visit the Cartographer's College here in our lovely seaside city.
My adventuring days began when I was 21 years old. Prior to that I was an apprentice Chandler to my father and also a member of his Merchant Guard during caravans to Ravenholt proper. At the age of 18 I took over his Chandlery and he effectively retired. I also met a young Quintari girl by the name of Andielle who was the daughter of one of my (then deceased) Grandfather's adventuring friends during the Goblin Wars of 518.
Although her father did not approve of our interest in marriage, he
reasoned this was "just a phase" his daughter was going through and decided to approve our marriage knowing she would outlive me. He felt my aging and dieing would teach her not to marry short-lived beings. Well, we didn't care. We set a date for a wedding which would take place after my next caravan to Ravenholt. While I was in the city I bought our wedding rings.
When I returned to the village I found it ablaze. Myself, and my Merchant Guard, rushed into the small town and found it under assualt by a force of Undead warriors. The beasts were killing men and older women and abducting the young women and older girls. A Necromancer was there by the name of Karnic. He was turning the dead into servants for his army. He was taking the women for his Harem.
My Guards and I attacked and were split up by the forces. I found my way to my home where my Father and Mother (both Undead) were killing my younger sister Elli'Ra. She was, apparently, too young for Karnics Harem..but old enough to be a minion. In a rage I destroyed my own parents.
My guards were all killed in the battle and Karnic, having all the women in the village now, decided he and his army would leave. I pursued but was blocked be a small contingent of Undead Knights (former servants of the King of Evendarr). I held my own, and (with a more luck than skill) managed to destroy one. The others would have cut me down if not for the timely arrival of a powerful healer and her Elven friend..who was also a healer. Between the three of us we were able to destroy the Knights. We were gravely hurt and could not continue the pursuit of my beloved. And so my long hunt began.
Four years later, and long seperated from my friends, I found myself in
the Southern most parts of our continent. A Kingdom called Badirra. There informants told me that Karnic was dead. And that his servants were all killed. I assumed this meant Andielle was dead as well. I entered a long period of depression. Having no where else to hunt I stayed in Baddira. I made many friends and had many adventures there. In time my depression was lifted by a Gypsy girl there named Navena Troy. At last I had found love again after 5 years without it. But it was not meant to be.
While investigating the actions of a maddened Planar being (bent on destroying the world..of course...) for the Plane of Life I was attacked and lost my memory. Were it not for a family of Goblins taking me in as one of their own I would have died in the woods that day.
While I was with the Goblins I was found by Andielle...who had escaped the destruction of Karnic and his minions. She took care of me. She had my Journal (which she found in the woods) and knew my entire past. But rather than risk I would find my way back to Navena she told me an alternate story of my life and hers...she tricked me into loving her again. In time I learned that she had used Necromancy to escape..and also kill an old woman who murdered the child Andielle had borne to Karnic. Also, and about the same time, my memory came back. I found her actions disgusting. She threatened to use Chaos upon me if I tried to leave. But my years of questing for her made me too powerful a fighter for her and I left. I could not, however, bring myself to kill her. She wanders free to this day...I know not where.
When I returned to Badirra at last I found my world had changed. Navena
had found a new love. She had given up on me. Many of my friends had moved on or died in battle against new enemies. Those who hadn't had changed for the worse usually. Whats more, my service to the Plane of Life was needed again..this time by the Plane of Death ironically. They transformed me to a Scholar to make me more usefull against an Undead army attacking the Plane of Life.
I was a different person for all the experiances of Amnesia, Spirit
Forging, and my world shifting around me to one I did not know. All this helped me to decide to move on. I had passed through Tyrangel thrice on my journies between Badirra and Ravenholt. I liked the area and decided to visit here.
When I met the people of Tyrangel, and especially of Marentha and Argentum I found myself more closely bonded to a group than I ever had before. And this place is so beautifull that I decided to stay. And I also decided that I would defend it. I swore an Oath to serve the Baron of Argentum.
And here I am. A Chandler in Manath. A Healer in the Baron's service. A
man still seeking the peace and comfort of a home and family. I at least have the home now. Perhaps you should make it yours as well. Manath is a lovely city. If you need help getting about let me know and I will be happy to show you around...for a small fee of course.
